Unfortunately, there are many types of scams you need to be aware of when you play Fortnite. As the game is the most popular game on the planet, it has proven to be fertile ground for scammers to take advantage of players.

But fear not, by reading this article and doing further research you are equipping yourself with the skills to stay safe in Fortnite and beyond, reducing the chance that you will fall for scams today or in the future.

While Fortnite scammers attempt many generic scams there are also some unique ones. Fake Codes and Code Generators are one such unique scam. So let’s have a closer look at exactly what they are and how you can stay safe.

There are three sub-categories of this type of code and generator scam that you should be aware of. Let’s break them down:

Fake V-Bucks Generators

These generators claim to generate free V-Bucks or free V-Buck codes simply by providing your username and/or password. In reality, they don’t do anything beyond take your personal data, as only Epic Games distributes codes.

Worse still, some of these scams ask you for “human verification” in the form of surveys or downloads, which can be harmful or, more simply, generate the scammer a small amount of revenue.

Together, these scams can compromise your personal data and waste your time.

Fake Fortnite Code Websites

Another prevalent scam is sites which offer free Fortnite codes or accounts. They promise to similarly generate codes for these freebies, again codes which do not work. And in the rare case that they do, these codes can be stolen, resulting in the account which uses them being banned.

Yes, you can get banned for using these fake or fraudulent codes. In general, the only Fortnite accounts for free are the ones that you make for yourself or friends, so be sure to rely only on trusted sources.

Fake Evidence On Youtube And Social Media

There are plenty of videos online which suggest that these generators work. They show people successfully using them and inputting the codes; but these are fake. They create misinformation which leads to players like us falling for scams.

How To Identify A Fortnite Scam

Protect yourself from scams by being suspicious of these things:

●       Too Good to Be True Offers: If you’re offered something for nothing, for no apparent reason, chances are that it’s not a legitimate offer.

●       Requests for Personal Information: If someone asks for your email, password or other personal information, that freebie is no longer free. Your data is the price you’ve paid!

●       Suspicious URLs: In the case that Epic Games do hold free giveaways, they will be available through their site. Never a third party platform, even if it has a similar name.

How To Stay Safe From Fortnite Code Scams

So, now that we understand code scams, what can we do to avoid them?

1. Only Use Official Sources

Only ever use Epic Games’ website, the Epic Games launcher or Fortnite client to claim freebies.

2. Enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)

Enabling two-factor authentication means that even if your username and password become compromised, nobody but you will be able to access your account.

3. Avoid Third-Party Generators

Just don’t use them. Any site claiming to generate free V-Bucks, or other items, is lying to you. You can only get V-Bucks from official sources.

4. Don’t Share Your Login Information

Simply put, never share your username or password with others. And certainly not both at the same time.

5. Report Scams

If you spot a scam, report it to the community. This will help to reduce the amount of scams and help to save other players.

Scammers are out there, sadly there’s nothing we can do to stop that. But we can keep ourselves and others safe by refusing to interact with their enticing offers. By following the advice above, you’ll be able to enjoy Fortnite scam free!
